Rising from the plains of the holy land of Sri Mayapur, on the banks of the sacred Ganges River, the Temple of the Vedic Planetarium will be a shining beacon to all aspiring spiritualists who are searching for answers to the questions of life.The temple is being designed according to the sacred architecture that has facilitated spiritual self-realisation for millions of people throughout the ages. Beginning from the lower planets, pilgrims travel up through the earthly realm and then on to the higher planetary systems before passing beyond the boundary of the material universe. Within the spiritual realm, visitors view the various spiritual planets, before finally arriving at the topmost spiritual abode of the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna. The Vedic Planetarium features a giant rotating model that demonstrates the movements of the planetary systems as described in sacred texts such as the Srimad-Bhagavatam. Alfred Brush Ford ,a great-grandson of Ford Motors’ founder Henry Ford and also the Chairman of Temple of the Vedic Planetarium,also a follower (ISKCON). Ford said (at a press meet in Kolkata ) the world’s largest Vedic Temple is likely to be opened by 2016 in Mayapur in West Bengal “The temple (will be) like a gateway to the spiritual world,” Ford said according to him ; The ISKCON temple currently receives four million visitors a year and is expected to receive around 10 million visitors once the Vedic temple is opened by 2016. While the entire built-up area of the temple would be 4.25 lakh sq ft,45 million dollars(Nearly 247 crore Indian rupees) is approx. Ford has financed construction of around 1.75 lakh sq ft , Anand Poddar , Deputy Chairman of Vedic Temple said.With a capacity to accommodate 10,000 devotees, the 340 ft-tall temple will have a 75 ft-domed Planetarium.
